What does it mean to say that Development is Sustainable? If development is Sustainable can it go on forever? Can growth continue forever? If growth has to end at some point, how do we know our current economic systems are sustainable? What does Sustainable Development have to do with Limits to Growth, a Steady State Economy, a Circular Economy, Capitalism, Socialism, Communism, Fascism, the World-System, etc., etc.? So many questions, so much verbal confusion!

Goals imply measurability and measurability implies we should be able to gage our current progress. Somehow, in 2026, it does not seem that we are making progress toward a Sustainable Future even if we don't know what that really means.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are discussed in the video at the beginning of this post. ChatGPT reports that:

The World Economic Forum reports that we have five years to go on meeting the SDGs and we are not on track. A casual reading of the Trump II Administration in the United States would suggest that this Administration could care less about sustainability!
